McNeil Log Cabin: March 2008

March 3, 2008 -- The shower and tub surround tile was finished this past weekend.

March 4, 2008 -- The wall at the front edge of the patio has a blue stone cap being installed. Natural blue stone rock is sedimentary, so the thickness varies.

March 5, 2008 -- The attic access doors are being cased. They will have cabinet type doors on them.

March 5, 2008 -- Firebrick is being installed in the firebox. The hearth will be brick to match the front patio.

March 5, 2008 -- Blue stone is now on the stepped ends of the patio wall.

March 6, 2008 -- The fireplace and hearth brick work is complete. There will be a surround and mantle soon.

March 6, 2008 -- This morning the master bath sink top with integral bowls was installed. It is Corian. Granite counter tops will be installed in the kitchen tomorrow.

March 6, 2008 -- A well is being drilled. It was started a day or two ago, but due to some equipment problems, it will be finished today.

March 11, 2008 -- Work is beginning on the stairway. A column has been trimed beside the stairs. On the far side of the stairs, you can see a skirt board along the wall.

March 11, 2008 -- Granite counter tops were installed last Friday. Today, cabinet tops will be installed in the two upstairs bathrooms. Those are the last of the counter tops.

March 12, 2008 -- The cultured marble vanity tops are now installed in the upstairs bathrooms.

March 13, 2008 -- Risers and treads are begin installed on stairs. The plywood on each step is temporary to protect the treads.

March 13, 2008 -- The floors are being sanded in preparation for the finish. They will be sanded several times.

March 18, 2008 -- The porch railings are being built. They will be around the house everywhere except for the patio in the front.

March 18, 2008 -- Power is run to the well. The water line is now run to the house. Water will be turned on in a few days.

March 24, 2008 -- The floors were finished last Thursday. Workers can now go on them with sock feet. Plumbing was trimmed out last Friday. Today the electricians are scheduled to trim out the electrical items.

March 24, 2008 -- Trim boards were installed on the porch ceiling. There is a vertical trim board against the house and a horizontal one along the beam on the right. They have to be finished with stain to match.

March 28, 2008 -- Appliances have been moved into the house. They are not back in place because they have to be connected.

March 28, 2008 -- The propane tank is buried and the gas line has been run to the house.

March 28, 2008 -- The porch rails are stained to match the posts. Soon, the deck will be stained a lighter shade of gray.

March 28, 2008 -- The master closet is getting a cedar lining.

March 31, 2008 -- The hand rails were built on Saturday. They will be stained to match the walls and beams. The stairs have temporary boards on them to protect them.

March 31, 2008 -- Upstairs, there is a handrail along the stairwell. These railings will also be stained to match the beams.
