March 3, 2008 -- Work is beginning on the ridge cap for the house. Most of the house is now roofed.


March 3, 2008 -- The random width oak flooring is being installed. It will go in the living room, dining room, entrance hall, powder room, downstairs hallway and kitchen.


March 5, 2008 -- The roof is almost finished. Here on the driveway side, it appear complete. The small shed roof on the right needs to be finished as does the connector between the river side porch and the outdoor kitchen.


March 5, 2008 -- This box is a blower for the range hood. It has been painted to match the roof. In the distance, you can see where one of the last parts of the roof is being covered.


March 5, 2008 -- From the river side, the outdoor kitchen roof appears complete. The entire house should be finished in the next day or so.


March 5, 2008 -- The wood floor was completed yesterday. It is random width and random length oak. The floor will be distressed when it is finished.


March 6, 2008 -- A good bit of the drive side of the garage is now roofed. There is a 100% chance of rain tomorrow, so the roofing will be completed early next week.


March 6, 2008 -- The rear porch (drive side) steps are being built. The treads are composite decking just as the porch deck is.


March 11, 2008 -- The roofing has been finished. The panels have dust and pollen on them. The small shed roof on the right will have braces going back to the wall soon.


March 11, 2008 -- A view from the southwest shows the relationship of the house and garage. If you look closely, you can see the river just to the right of the front porch (the far side of the house).


March 11, 2008 -- Work is continuing on the front porch. The last section is now being paved. A low hearth will be made of bricks in front of the fireplace.


March 12, 2008 -- Spray in foam insulation is being applied to the walls. This insulation covers very well and eliminates voids that often occur in fiberglass insulation.


March 12, 2008 -- The roof and exterior walls have foam insulation. Doing this keeps the attic temperatures within a few degrees of the inside temperatures.


March 12, 2008 -- The front (river side) porch brick work is complete. There is a low hearth at the fireplace.


March 14, 2008 -- The outdoor kitchen is being dressed up a good bit. It now has brick below the fireplace. The board in the center is a temporary brace. A third row of bricks will be added when the tops are poured.


March 14, 2008 -- Sheet rock is being delivered. It is distributed to the various rooms in preparation for installation. Installation should begin on Monday.


March 17, 2008 -- Sound insulation has been installed to isolate the bathrooms, bedrooms and laundry room.


March 17, 2008 -- The pocket door tracks are installed. A transom will go above most of the downstair doors.


March 17, 2008 -- The floor of the garage storage room has insulation in it. It is not conditioned now, but may be someday.


March 17, 2008 -- The sheet rock will be hung today. It was started yesterday. The house has a whole new appearance now.


March 17, 2008 -- The stairway now has sheet rock. It looks much more finished.


March 17, 2008 -- From the second floor, the plant shelf looks very nice. There will be a hand railing between the plant shelf and the bathroom wall.


March 17, 2008 -- From the stairway, the two niches are visible. as are the living room and kitchen walls. Both of those walls will be covered with wood.


March 17, 2008 -- On the outside, the hog fencing is being installed between brick piers. The hog fencing will be painted Charleston green.


March 20, 2008 -- The hog fencing is being installed around the house. The outdoor kitchen will have tabby stucco on it.


March 20, 2008 -- The drywall is being taped and finished starting today. There are about 10 more sheets to hang.


March 20, 2008 -- The garage upstairs will not be finished once the drywall is completed. There will be no trim, paint or finished floor.


March 20, 2008 -- The front of the house is having hog fencing installed. There will be a wide set of steps on this side.


March 21, 2008 -- Tall scaffolding is needed to finish the sheet rock in the living room. The ceiling is over twenty feet high.


March 21, 2008 -- The stairs to the garage will have a small deck at the top. It is being started today. The decking and stair treads will be the same composite material used on the back porch.


March 21, 2008 -- Forms are begin built in the outdoor kitchen for the counter top. It will be tile on top of poured concrete. Tiling will begin next week.


March 21, 2008 -- The front (river side) of the house now has a skirt board and hog fencing. The opening at the far end is for an access door. Next week, railings and stairs will be started.


March 21, 2008 -- The front of the house is beginning to look more finished. There will be a wide set of stairs at the front.


March 21, 2008 -- How do you finish sheet rock 12' from the floor? Wear stilts on stilts, of course. The worker has to climb on the scaffold to get on his double stilts.


March 24, 2008 -- Stone for the bathroom floors has arrived. The stone work is starting in the master bathroom shower very soon.


March 24, 2008 -- Backer board is installed in the laundry room. The mud hall and pantry will also have similar tile.


March 24, 2008 -- The outdoor kitchen counter top is being poured in the next hour or so. It will be tiled very soon. The first opening is for a fryer and the second indentation is for a steak grill.


March 24, 2008 -- Porch hand rails are being milled in preparation for building. The rear porch (drive side -- this one) will have railings only. The front porch will have railings and screen.


March 25, 2008 -- The counter top has been poured on the left side of the outdoor kitchen. The left opening is for a steak grill and the right for a fryer. The entire counter top and back wall will be tiled in the next few days.


March 25, 2008 -- The right side of the kitchen has a sink and smoker. The form boards will be taken down in the next day or so.


March 25, 2008 -- The front (river side) porch is very large. It will have a railing and be screened. There will be a set of steps off the porch across from the front door.


March 25, 2008 -- Backer board is installed in the master bathroom. It will have a floor heater installed and then floor tile.


March 25, 2008 -- The master shower is being prepped for tiling. The floor, walls and ceiling will be tiled.


March 25, 2008 -- The mud hall, pantry and laundry room have tile. They will be grouted with a medium brown grout.


March 25, 2008 -- The rear (drive side) porch and steps now have railings. In the next few days, the other two sets of steps will be built.


March 25, 2008 -- Tile is being laid on the outdoor serving table. The tile and grout match the tile used in the laundry room.


March 25, 2008 -- A three foot wide deck is added to the side doors. Steps will go down to a sidewalk to the garage.


March 26, 2008 -- More tile is laid on the serving table. The temporary supports are to hold the tile until the thinset sets. This tile will have the same medium brown grout as the laundry room floor.


March 26, 2008 -- A counter top has been poured around the smoker. The boards showing are temporary form boards and will come off soon. These counter tops and walls will be tiled to match the serving table.


March 26, 2008 -- A deck is also added to the front (river side) porch. It is required by the building code since there will be screen doors on the porch. A couple of deck boards are in place to show their will be a very small step up to the bricks.


March 26, 2008 -- The upstairs tub will have a tile surround. The red coating is waterproofing that goes beneath the tile.


March 26, 2008 -- The mud room tile is now grouted. This is the same type of tile and grout that is used in the outdoor kitchen. The tiles are larger in the house than outside.


March 28, 2008 -- Steps are now built on at the side doors. They will be finished very soon.


March 28, 2008 -- The drive side of the house has railings and permanent steps. The gap below the hog fencing will be hidden with landscaping.


March 28, 2008 -- A heating element has been placed on the floor. It will be covered with concrete and then floor tile. A thermostat will regulate the floor temperature.


March 28, 2008 -- The shower now has a seat in it. The seat and walls will be covered with tile. The red coating is waterproofing that goes on before the tile.


March 28, 2008 -- A small niche has been built into the wall of the shower.


March 31, 2008 -- Tile has been installed on the master bathroom floor. The closet on the far right will have carpet. The round opening will feed baseboard vents in a cabinet that will be in stalled on the far wall.


March 31, 2008 -- The guest bathroom also has been tiled. A storage chest will be built in on the far side of the room where there is no tile.
