Lowcountry Plantation Remodel: June 2007

June 1, 2007 -- The Dutch gable is clearly visible now. Most of the rafters are installed. Plywood will go down before long.

June 1, 2007 -- Here is another view of the Dutch gable. It will match the gables on the carport.

June 1, 2007 -- Tony is working on the kitchen roof rafters. They are a bit of a challenge (as roofing often is in remodels). The rafters should be finished today.

June 4, 2007 -- Part of the roof now has plywood and ice and water shield. Only a few rafters still need to be installed.

June 4, 2007 -- The Dutch gable is starting to take shape. The roof on this side has been covered in plywood.

June 4, 2007 -- This is a view of the inside of the kitchen. The old wall is gone. On the left is the door to the dining room.

June 4, 2007 -- The addition is visible from the driveway out front as you look throught the oak grove.

June 5, 2007 -- Plywood is going down on the roof. Plywood should be finished on the roof today.

June 5, 2007 -- This is the view from the living room door to the far corner of the new dining room.

June 5, 2007 -- This is a view towards the kitchen. The opening (just to the left of the black wall) will be a swinging door.

June 7, 2007 -- This is a view from near the new powder room through the kitchen into the dining room. Various materials are temporarily stacked in the dining room.

June 7, 2007 -- This is a view of the house from the western side. The roof makes a nice valley with the existing roof. The Dutch gable is clearly visible.

June 7, 2007 -- The closest room is the kitchen addition. Again, the Dutch gable over the dining room is visible.

June 11, 2007 -- The skirt board and drip rail are being installed. Cypress siding will cover the black paper in the next few days.

June 11, 2007 -- The soffits are being installed with vents to match the original house. Windows should arrive tomorrow.

June 13, 2007 -- The windows and door are installed. They match the existing windows and doors in the main house. A set of steps will be built at the doors.

June 13, 2007 -- This is the kitchen with the window installed. It overlooks the lake.

June 13, 2007 -- The dining room has lots of windows and a full glass door.

June 14, 2007 -- The kitchen is really looking big with the protective plastic down. The floor will be cork. Cabinets will be cherry.

June 14, 2007 -- Cypress siding is being installed on the outside. It will be stained gray to match.

June 14, 2007 -- The fascia board (at the top of the siding) has been installed. On Monday, the rest of the siding will be installed.

June 14, 2007 -- The rough in plumbing was started (and finished) today. This is the powder room. A tankless water heater will also be installed.

June 19, 2007 -- The upstairs floor is solidly braced before the wall is closed.

June 19, 2007 -- The kitchen wall has a tankless water heater installed (the white box near the center). Tankless water heaters provide a continous flow of hot water.

June 19, 2007 -- The windows are trimmed and siding is being installed.

June 19, 2007 -- The white box is the water heater.

June 20, 2007 -- The cypress siding has been installed. The exterior trim is finished.

June 20, 2007 -- There will be a set of brick steps outside this door from the dining room.

June 20, 2007 -- There is a lot of detail work to make the new siding and trim match the existing siding and trim. It is coming together very well.

June 21, 2007 -- This is the stairwell. Where is the access to the dining room attic?

June 21, 2007 -- Here it is. The panel is hard to see when it is in place. The air conditioner for the addition will be installed inside this space over the dining room.

June 21, 2007 -- The part on the left is the new dining room. On the right is the existing house. If you look, the house has steel roofing on it. The dining room has only ice and water shield now.

June 21, 2007 -- This is the powder room (on the left) and kitchen on the right. Notice how well they match the existing house.

June 21, 2007 -- The electrical rough in was started (and nearly finished) today. Soon the walls will be insulated and covered with sheet rock.

June 21, 2007 -- This is a view of the ceiling of the dining room. The air conditioner air handler will be installed on the plywood area. The access door is visible over the piece of tar paper (the black item in the center).

June 21, 2007 -- This is the entrance to the dining room from the house. There are several light switches here.

June 23, 2007 -- The old and new. To the left of this post is the old house and to the right is the addition. The glass door goes into the new kitchen hallway.

June 26, 2007 -- Part of the roof has been installed. If you look closely, you can see the (new) silver roof and (old) black roof.

June 26, 2007 -- Here is a closer view of the roof. The new silver roof will be painted black to match the old roof when the installation is finished.

June 26, 2007 -- The kitchen side of the roof is being installed today. All of the roof should be finished in the next day or so.

June 26, 2007 -- The air conditioner air handler is installed above the dining room ceiling. Most of the ducts have been run. The rough in part will be finished in a day or so.

June 28, 2007 -- The roof is on. Some crimping remains and it will be finished except for painting.

June 28, 2007 -- This close up shows how the roof steel is bent and crimped over the drip rail. The grey is the painted cypress. The wide silver part is the drip rail.

June 28, 2007 -- The attic has spray in foam for insulation. This works very well to keep the attic cool and insulate the room.

June 28, 2007 -- A window used to be here. This is the inside on the stairwell. When the boards are painted, it will be difficult to see there ever was a window here.
