Gitlitz Cottage: July 2007



July 2, 2007 -- Gitlitz Cottage is getting a built in book case between the hallway and great room.


July 2, 2007 -- Interior painting has begun. The two bedrooms are now primed.


July 3, 2007 -- The built in book case now has trim along the floor. It will have adjustable shelves very soon.


July 3, 2007 -- Trim is installed around the top of the utility closet that divides the kitchen from the hallway.


July 3, 2007 -- The disappearing stairway has been installed for access to a storage area over the guest bathroom.


July 6, 2007 -- The cabinets are installed in the Gitlitz Cottage. The right cabinet will hold a stove top. The right opening is for a dishwasher. The openings on the left and on the left wall are for under counter refrigerators.


July 11, 2007 -- Final painting is starting. If you look closely, you can see the color over the kitchen cabinets.


July 12, 2007 -- The cottage has its first coat of interior paint (after the primer). The interior trim is also painted.


July 12, 2007 -- The master bath is painted. The window casing is also painted.


July 16, 2007 -- The ceiling is having beams installed today. Here is how it looks without beams.


July 18, 2007 -- The ridge beam has wood trim now. The dormer beams are also in place. Soon, more beams will be added.


July 19, 2007 -- The ceiling has more beams added. Notice the beams between the lights and the chimney.


July 19, 2007 -- Each set of beams on the roof gets a cross beam like this one. It will also have a beam from the ridge beam to the center of the cross beam.


July 20, 2007 -- The ceiling beams are finished. There are four of them in the great room. The center two beams get track lighting.


July 20, 2007 -- The center two beams are next to the dormers. These two beams have track lighting.


July 21, 2007 -- More woodwork trim is being done at the cottage. Sheet rock has been cut back exposing the beam along the front.


July 21, 2007 -- The final bronze screen wire finally arrived. It was on back order for several weeks. The back porch screening is complete.


July 23, 2007 -- The ceiling of the guest bedroom is pickled. A pickled finish is one that is a thin paint so the grain is visible.


July 24, 2007 -- The ceiling was painted today. It is a shiny white.


July 24, 2007 -- The built in has also been painted in the gloss white paint.


July 24, 2007 -- This is a shot over the utility closet showing some of the beam work. The doors have not been installed yet.


July 24, 2007 -- This is yet another view of the painted woodwork. The light near the center is from the gable window. A scaffold is on the right edge of the photo.


July 26, 2007 -- The front door has interior casing installed. It will be painted to match the other trim.
